Aedes Mosquito

Aedes Aegypti are known to be indoor biters while Aedes Albopictus are outdoor biters. Aedes Mosquitos are usually most active during dawn and dusk and mosquitos in general are weak, which means they will be less active in windy conditions.

Attracted by carbon dioxide, light and odour, this pest is capable of spreading life-threatening diseases like Dengue, Chikungunya and Yellow-Fever.

Appearance

• Adult is 4–7mm long
• Distinct black and white stripes on abdomen and legs
• Marking in the form of a lyre on the upper surface of its thorax

Habits

• Prefer darker places or objects
• Average flying distance from 50 to 100m

Life Cycle

• After a full blood meal the female Aedes Mosquito can lay 100–200 eggs
• Freshly laid eggs are white but turn shiny black within minutes
• In warm conditions the eggs hatch in little as 2 days
• All stages of life are aquatic before emerging as an adult
• Able to lay eggs and mature into adults within small amounts of stagnant water

Signs of Infestation

• Consistent buzzing sound in the ear
• Experiencing skin rashes and redness
• Mosquito bites are an obvious sign which are usually inflamed
• Larvae in stagnant water
